Classroom:Fitzpatrick carries a 3.909 cumulative grade point average heading into her final semester as a math education major. She has earned academic all-district honors and was named to Academic All-MAC Teams in both 2006 and 2007. She is a three time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete and has plans to return to her home state of Georgia to teach and coach upon graduation next fall.
Character:According to head coach Karen Linder, "As a team leader through both her character and level of play, Jamie has helped Kent State become 2006 conference tournament champions and 2007 conference champs while the team has earned regional recognition and participated in the 2006 NCAA tournament. Jamie’s leadership, work ethic, and determination has been instrumental in KSU’s success over the last three years. As a freshman Jamie was recruited to pitch however she was asked to change positions as a sophomore to become a first baseman where she was able to help the team offensively day in and day out. Jamie willingly accepted the challenge of learning a new position to help make the team better. She has been a positive influence on the team both on and off the field as she demonstrates several outstanding qualities of leadership including honesty, trust, responsibility, teamwork, initiative, and willingness to take charge. Community:Jamie has been involved in both the Kent community and the Atlanta community which is where she is originally from and lives in the summer. As a student at Kent State, Jamie has been an active member of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has visited the Akron Children’s Hospital. In the summers Jamie has volunteered as a coach with a youth league softball team, has worked at Gods Farm, Inner City Sports Camp in Atlanta, and has helped plan a Charity Golf Tournament for Tommorrows Champions, a non-profit organization.
Competition:Named to All-Mid-American Conference First Team in 2007and garnered all-region second team honors in 2006. She claimed a spot on the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2006 and holds Kent State records for home runs in a season with 13 and career home runs with 28. She was named MAC East Player of the Week five times during 2007 season and led the team in hitting (.367), home runs (13), RBI (42) and slugging (.713) in 2007. She pitched as a freshman, going 2-2 in the circle and carries a .314 career batting average heading into her senior season with 28 homers, 89 RBI and 57 runs scored. Throughout her career she has had several clutch game winning hits including a two-run homer that won the MAC Tournament Championship game in 2006 which allowed KSU to go to the NCAA Tournament.
